SARS-CoV-2 can be highly stable in favourable environments.

A recent paper on Lancet Microbe published by Alex Chin, Malik Peiris and Leo Poon of HKU SPH investigated the stability of SARS-CoV-2 in different environmental conditions in laboratory setting. They found that the virus is sensitive to heat but highly stable at low temperature. Comparing various types of surfaces, the virus was more stable on smooth surfaces. They concluded that SARS-CoV-2 can be highly stable in a favourable environment, but also susceptible to standard disinfection methods.
