The estimation of clinical severity of COVID-19 in mainland China
In an article published in Nature Medicine, HKU School of Public Health researchers updated their previous findings and further estimated the clinical severity of COVID-19 in mainland China. They estimated that the overall symptomatic case fatality risk (the probability of dying after developing symptoms) of COVID-19 in Wuhan was 1.4%, and those aged above 59 years old were 5.1 times more likely to die after developing symptoms compared with those from the 30-59 age group. The risk of symptomatic infection also increased with age.
