Simulation study showed that dividing or balancing social groups can substantially reduce transmission while sustaining economic activities
Researchers from HKU SPH collaborated with researchers from around the world on an article published in PNAS that explores improved approaches for reducing COVID-19 transmission by reducing person-to-person contacts and crowding. They used agent-based simulations of a network-based susceptible−exposed−infectious−recovered (SEIR) model to investigate two network intervention strategies, and results showed that dividing people into separate groups for daily activities can better help to reduce transmission, while the effect of joint implementation of dividing and balancing contact patterns could be particularly effective.
